Days 9 and 10 Today we checked out of our hotel and picked up our camper for our trip north. Our first stop is at Terry and Marjatta’s home about two hours north. We stayed two nights and they gave us a great tour of the Hunter Valley where most of the countries vineyards are located, a trip along the coastline including a trip through Newcastle the major port for exporting coal. Terry also promised to show me kangaroos in the wild. For our lunch break we stopped for an Aussie hamburger. The burger with the works is comprised of a hamburger with a fried egg, beet root (pickled beet slices), grilled pineapple slice, lettuce, tomato, onion and bacon. For dinner the first night Terry grilled steaks on the barbie served with grilled onion and a fried egg served on a grilled portabella mushroom, very good. One other Aussie food favorite that Marjatta introduced us to is Vegemite which Brewers yeast that you spread on your buttered toast, it’s an acquired taste (see link) http://www.vegemite.com.au/.
